Tilt Demon - Software that applies a stop/loss limit and enforces this to prevent tilt


What Does Tilt Demon Do:

Tilt Demon is a silent program that works in the background tracking your winnings and losses through your Holdem Manager Database and allows you to set limits such as amount lost, amount won, bb’s lost or won, time played and hands played and also a trailing loss where it calculates your loss from the highest point in a session.

When you have exceeded one of those limits then Tilt Demon will alert you to this and give you a specified amount of time to close down your poker client. If you fail to do so it will then shut your poker client down automatically and block any subsequent attempts to open it. It allows you to set the lock out time which may be short or long depending on your tendencies to overcome tilt.

The philosophy behind it is when someone is tilting they are not in control of their emotions and so Tilt Demon takes control for them and makes a decision to stop playing, a decision you already made before hand when you set the stop loss limit but in your current state of mind you’re incapable of enforcing. We support all sites that Holdem Manager currently support.

Heres an example of 122k hands of 100nl 6max played last year. I ran at +4bb/100 over that sample. What I’m going to attempt to do is use the savings calculator to see where my win rate drops as my losses for a session increase or decrease. Basically it will show if my winrate drops or increases as my losses increase. Ive documented the results across 14 different win/loss amounts. As you can see there is an obvious correlation between my winrate decreasing as i start winning or losing a couple of buyins.

Security

What was important to us was not to make it easy to bypass this self imposed time lock so although we've made it so even an advanced computer user would find it very difficult to bypass or uninstall the software while the lock is in place we didn't want to impose any security measures that might hinder the users experience or do anything malicious.

The biggest challenge was the lockout time, any user can easily change the time clock on windows to bypass so we connect to our server at www.tiltdemon.com every time you reboot to verify the time, i don't want to go into the mechanics for obvious reasons but once we do this we can make sure no matter what time you change your clock time to our software will know the real time and keep you locked out regardless of whether you delete your hand histories or uninstall every program on your PC. In short we think we've a pretty fool proof system that you cant bypass when it locks you out.

This is the only server we contact at any time and the only information we request is the time from the server and send it back to your PC, we don't send or request ABSOLUTELY any other information other than the time. Its extremely important to us that you feel safe using the software, as a poker player myself i understand the concerns.
